May Mental Health Month Educational Materials

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that support is available at every stage of life — not only in moments of crisis. In collaboration with the Internal Communications Creative Partner at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota, I led the design of a campaign that educated employees on the mental health resources and services available to them. The materials ranged from evergreen awareness pieces to more personal touchpoints that invited employees to share their own stories — because mental health affects everyone, and the design needed to reflect that openness.

Process: Brief & Kickoff → Concepting → Design → Delivery

Research: I started by auditing BCBSND's previous Mental Health Month materials, identifying opportunities to improve clarity, accessibility, and visual warmth. I also reviewed existing employee-facing mental health resources to understand how information was currently being presented — and where it might be falling short. Because mental health can be an uncomfortable topic to engage with, I made intentional choices to use inviting color palettes and clear, approachable copy that lowered the barrier to engagement.
